Why do so many people have an issue with bad things happening to "good" people?

Where in scripture does it unequivocally state that if we are good that we will have no problems and everything will go according to plan? Jesus himself said many times that if we follow Him that we would be persecuted. The only people that I see advocating such a teaching are the Prosperity Gospel heretics.
